Here comes the next Miata - the Subaru BRZ. Yes, a Subaru.
You probably haven’t heard of the Subaru BRZ yet. But soon you will. It’s Subaru’s first 2-wheel drive car. Like the original Miata, it’s a back-to-basics, lightweight, affordable, great handling sports car. At a high level, it was built in a cooperative effort with Toyota. In reality, Subaru designed the chassis and a brand-new engine, and Toyota only designed the body styles. Three versions of the same car will come to market this spring - the Subaru BRZ, the Toyota GT-86, and the Scion FR-S. Street price? Less than $30k. According to all of the major car magazines, it has amazing handling. Not a lot of horsepower (200), but the tuners will take care of that. You can read about it in Car & Driver and in Automobile. I can’t wait to drive one on the track.
